Skills Experience

Aim

To provide you with an opportunity to trial through support and learning experience your intended progression destination, should this be employment, training or learning. 

Programme Content

You will attend for two days per week and undertake three stages as part of this 11 week programme:

Stage One – You will undertake an Induction and Initial Assessment.  This stage will include comprehensive Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) on all pathways and opportunities to support your decisions on your potential progression.  You will agree the qualification and individual units to inform your Individual Learning Plan. Preparation for the next stage will take place during this stage which will include travel training/planning to ensure that any barriers to participation are removed.  This stage will take place for 4 weeks.

Stage two – This stage will involve you experiencing a number of different options to confirm your progression destination.  This may include work experience with real employers, experience of an Apprenticeship with Apprenticeship Providers, experience of further education or Foundation Learning.  This stage will take place for 4 weeks.

Stage three – This stage will be the review, reflection and completion of your qualification.

You will be expected to undertake two of these qualifications. 

These qualifications are designed to develop your employability skills, gain and retain a job and advance in the workplace, whilst also providing an introduction to the skills, qualities and knowledge that may be required for employment in a particular vocational sector.   Units will prepare for progression and include: 

  • Self Assessment
  • Career Progression
     
    You will also have the opportunity to undertake Certificate in Literacy and/or Numeracy if they require it.

Programme start date, Attendance and capacity

There will be two start dates:

  • Monday 30 January 2012
  • Wednesday 29 February 2012

You will be expected to attend two days per week, if you start in January this will be the Monday and Tuesday, if you start in February, this will be the Wednesday and Thursday.  You will be expected to attend from 09.30am until 4.00pm on both of these days.

There is capacity for a maximum of 10 young people on each start date.  You will be interviewed prior to acceptance onto the programme.  This is to ensure that you are motivated and committed to the programme.  On acceptance to the programme, further details regarding location of the first stage will be provided.

Learner Support

Funding to support travel costs, lunch and other materials will be available for those in need.  An assessment of the need will be carried out during the interview stage.  This funding is limited and subject to availability.  

Eligibility

  • You must be aged 16-18
  • Not currently in Education, employment or training
  • Live in Hull (HU1 – HU9)
